For a long stretch, the interesting new restaurants in this part of Sacramento opened somewhere else. Midtown got the chef-driven concepts, Fair Oaks got the coffee, and Arden-Arcade got another chain. That has quietly changed. Between the far end of Howe Avenue and the shopping centers along Arden Way, this summer's opening list reads like the neighborhood is being asked to stop driving downtown for dinner. Here is what has actually landed, what is about to land, and how to plan around the two weeks in July when Cal Expo turns the whole area into a parking puzzle.
Howe Avenue Is Doing The Heavy Lifting
Howe has become the corridor to watch. Vietnamese restaurant Sit Lo Saigon is filling the former Bruchi's spot on Howe Avenue, a March 2026 addition that gives the middle of Howe a pho option it did not really have. A few blocks north, Crazy Hot Pot Sushi & Grill is set to take over the former Mimi's Cafe space at 2029 Alta Arden Expressway, bringing tableside hot pot and an all-you-can-eat sushi format to a building that had been dark.
The most anticipated of the Howe openings is at 1249 Howe Ave. The former site of Buca di Beppo has officially been sold and will soon be home to a new Middle Eastern dining concept, from Bay Area restaurateur Javed Ahmadi. Ahmadi plans to renovate and refresh the building before opening the new restaurant sometime in 2026. If you have been driving past that dark Buca sign since it closed and wondering, that is the answer.
Rounding out the corridor: LA Bangin' Tacos set a soft opening in Arden-Arcade in early 2026, and Field House American Sports Pub is moving after buying a building nearby, an unusual move that keeps a longtime tenant in the neighborhood rather than losing it to Roseville.
Arden Way's Coffee-And-Cocktail Axis
Arden Way is the other spine, and it is picking up pieces the corridor was missing. A fast-growing Yemeni coffee chain is brewing up another Greater Sacramento location: fresh off its Roseville debut, Haraz Coffee House is now setting its sights on 2300 Arden Way in Arden-Arcade. The café will undergo a complete renovation, including updated landscaping, lighting, and a refreshed design, with plans to open in March or April 2026. The ethnic coffee chain's upcoming two-story café aims to create a cozy, community-centered nightlife alternative. That last detail matters. Arden Way has plenty of daytime coffee. A late-night café that is not a bar is genuinely new.
For sit-down dinner without the drive over the river, Bennett's American Cooking is located in The UV in Arden Arcade, with a chef-driven menu of American classics and a full bar, and weekend brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM. Farther down the pipeline, Chez Luc's French Café, which serves freshly roasted coffee and artisanal sandwiches in a French café setting, has set an opening date in Arden-Arcade, and local chain Kiki's Chicken Place is nearing the opening of its Arden-Arcade location.
Town & Country Village Keeps Adding Reasons To Stay
The Marconi-and-Fulton anchor has a longer memory than most Sacramento shopping centers. Town & Country Village was the first suburban, auto-oriented shopping center in the Sacramento metropolitan area and one of the first in the United States, opening in 1946 with 65 shops. Eighty years in, it is still leasing. Onigiri Burgers is opening a new location in Town & Country Village in Arden-Arcade, a Japanese-American concept built around the concept of replacing traditional burger buns with rice and seaweed, with fillings ranging from Spam and ham to imitation crab and eel, served alongside sides like macaroni, miso soup, and salad. On the retail side, Bob's Discount Furniture arrived in September 2025, filling one of the last big-box holes at the center.
If you own a home within a mile of the Marconi-Fulton corner, the practical takeaway is simple: you no longer need to explain the neighborhood by pointing at Trader Joe's.
Saturday Mornings Belong To Country Club Plaza
The one anchor that has not changed, and does not need to, is the market. The Arden-Arcade Certified Farmers' Market is on Saturdays from 8AM to 12PM, year-round, at Country Club Plaza, 2405 Butano Dr, Sacramento CA, 95825. This neighborhood Certified Farmers' Market is focused on local agriculture in a family friendly atmosphere with easy parking, and CalFresh is accepted with Market Match incentives. Up to $15 in Market Match is provided to customers using their CalFresh card to shop. The market is run by Alchemist CDC, the same nonprofit that operates several other Sacramento-area markets.
A workable Saturday summer routine, using only the new pieces:
- 8:15 a.m. at Country Club Plaza for produce and stone fruit
- 9:30 a.m. coffee at Haraz on Arden Way once the two-story café is open, or Temple's Arden location at 2600 Fair Oaks Blvd in the meantime
- 11:00 a.m. errands at Town & Country Village
- 12:30 p.m. lunch at whichever Howe Avenue opening you have not tried yet
- Afternoon at William B. Pond Recreation Area on the American River Parkway
None of that requires crossing Business 80.
Two Weeks When The Neighborhood Belongs To Everyone Else
Circle the calendar. The California State Fair runs Friday, July 17, 2026 through Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento. The Fair's new hours are Monday through Thursday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the final day, Aug. 2, closing at 8 p.m.
The Toyota Concert Series on the Sky River Casino Stage is the reason the traffic pattern shifts after 6 p.m. The 2026 lineup includes Babyface on July 17, Wyclef Jean on July 18, Tower of Power on July 19, Struggle Jennings on July 20 as a free show, Midland on July 21, Iration on July 22, Lee Brice on July 23, Ja Rule on July 24, KC and the Sunshine Band on July 25, Ezequiel Peña on July 26, Queen Nation on July 27 as a free show, Keith Sweat on July 28, Trace Adkins on July 29, Dark Star Orchestra on July 30, Boyz II Men on July 31, WAR on August 1, and Yacht Rock Revue on August 2. A few of those, particularly the Friday and Saturday nights, will queue traffic back onto Ethan Way and Exposition Boulevard well before the gates.
Cal Expo also hosts more than the Fair. The area hosts Sacramento Republic FC matches at Heart Health Park. During the Fair window, Heart Health Park has Bay Breakers vs. New York Exiles on July 18 and Bay Breakers vs. TC Gemini on July 26, both dates that overlap Fair concerts. If you live off Fair Oaks, Watt, or Howe and normally cut through Exposition, plan Ethan Way or Auburn Boulevard as backups on those Saturdays.
A resident's checklist for Fair weeks:
- Grocery runs before 3 p.m. weekdays, not after
- Restaurant reservations at Bennett's or Piatti pushed to Sunday night rather than Friday
- Uber pickups staged at the Cal Expo Lot A rideshare zone, not on Exposition itself
- Farmers' market shopping done by 10 a.m. on the two overlap Saturdays, July 18 and July 25
The Thread
The pattern in this summer's openings is not about any single restaurant. It is about where they are. Sit Lo Saigon, the Ahmadi project at 1249 Howe, Crazy Hot Pot, LA Bangin' Tacos, Haraz, Onigiri Burgers, Chez Luc's, and Kiki's are all inside a two-mile square bordered by Fulton, Watt, Arden, and El Camino. That square used to be a place people left for dinner. It is turning into a place that has dinner.
For residents, that shifts what "the neighborhood" actually offers on a Wednesday night. And for the shopping centers that anchor this part of Sacramento, from a 1946 open-air pioneer at Marconi and Fulton to The UV off Arden, the summer of 2026 is the clearest signal in a while that the tenants are betting on Arden-Arcade rather than hedging.
